Department Introduction

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE PROGRAM AND CHANGES

Faculty of Arts and Sciences was established on 17 November 1958 within the body of Atatürk University. In the Science Group, there were two departments, namely the Department of Mathematics and Physics and the Department of Natural Sciences.

The Science Group undertook the execution of the FKB courses of the Faculty of Agriculture. At the beginning of the 1962-1963 academic year, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, which continued its activities in today’s Şair Nefi Secondary School, moved to its own buildings located in the current campus.

In 1969, it was divided into three faculties, namely the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Letters and the Faculty of Business. The Faculty of Science, which is organized in five separate departments as Biology, Geology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, started education and training at the undergraduate level by taking 37 students to the Biology Department for the first time in the 1970-1971 academic year.
