Department of Mathematics

Faculty of Arts and Sciences was established on 17 November 1958 within the body of Atatürk University. In the Science Group, there are two departments, namely the Department of Mathematics-Physics and the Department of Natural Sciences; In the Literature Group, there are five departments: Turkish Language and Literature, German Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, French Language and Literature, and Economics and Business Administration. At the beginning of the 1962-1963 academic year, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, which continued its activities in today’s Şair Nefi Secondary School, moved to its own buildings located in the current campus. In 1969, it was divided into three faculties, namely the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Letters and the Faculty of Business. The Faculty of Science, which is organized in five separate departments as Biology, Geology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, started education and training at the undergraduate level for the first time in the 1970-1971 academic year by taking 37 students to the Biology Department and 96 students to the Mathematics Department.

Under the Faculty of Science and Letters, since 1970, with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated September 17, 2008 and numbered 2008/14169, it has been providing undergraduate education to its students as the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Science. The language of instruction of the mathematics department is Turkish. The main goal of our department is to train the mathematicians our country needs at an international level. There are 25 Faculty Members and 5 Research Assistants in our department. Decree Law No. 41 on the Organization of Higher Education Institutions, which was published in the Official Gazette No. 17760 in the branches of Analysis and Functions Theory, Geometry, Algebra and Number Theory, Fundamentals of Mathematics and Mathematics Logic, Applied Mathematics, Topology and Computer Sciences. It also provides graduate and doctorate education as the Mathematics Department affiliated to the Institute of Science and Technology, which was established with The Department of Mathematics, which serves its own faculty during the undergraduate education period, also carries out the theoretical and practical parts of the Mathematics courses in the curricula of other faculties in our university.
